“The Golden Bird”

Hey Sarah, Adam, Paul and Chris.

For next week(9) if I could see any thumbnail or rendered images for this project that would be great. I look forward to seeing them. I have seen your artwork what you can do and your talent will really be needed for this team.

I know we are all busy and I have spoken to the team about this story and the “The Golden Bird” story and others. The consent is that we are okay with it. So I am going to make an executive decision and we are going to do this story, “The Golden Bird”!

I like this story from a pre-production point of view because it has a bit of everything. Paul I think you might especially like the soldiers and the watchers, Sarah you like animal so there is a few here, Adam and Chris you might like the kings sons and soldiers with cool weapons and the castle designs. We all need to have a go at designing everything even if its just one picture but you can major in what you like. Personally I’ll do everything and pick up on the one that you haven’t done.

If you cant read the story just use this list below as reference.

Here is some info that might help you get started on the characters

These are just my quick thoughts and initials interpretations. This is totally open so make up own thoughts and idea.

1.King(the father of the three sons):

wise, very royal, crowned, noble,

2.Eldest Son and Second Son:

(These guys are the bad guys)

Wicked princes, plenty of money to spend so, crazy weapons, elaborate clothing,

and handsome because they have had the best of everything.

3.Youngest Son (hero of the story)

A good prince, plenty of money as well, slightly smaller than older brothers,

Energetic, a few weapons, wealthy clothing.

4.Golden Bird:

Fiery, the phoenix? Could be a falcon, parrot, and canary?

Golden Feather is also important in the story so make the tail feathers really interesting

5.Kings Council:

Noble, proud, elaborate, (I think of sour old men) haha

6.Fox (a main character)

Wild, large, untamed looking.

7.Soldiers

armored, various weapons, flowing robes with shields and helmet.

8.Grooms of the Golden Horse:

I think of Arabian, long robes and turbans with sickles.

9.Princess:

Royal, beautiful, jewelry, elaborate clothing

10.Princess’ Parents(A King And Queen)

Royal and majestic

11.Watchers:

Assassins, hired murderers, mercenaries, hunters, dark, sinister,

Elaborate weapons and light armor.

12.Poor man

Old, rags, hunched back, bearded

13.Youngest son as king:

Similar to his father as king( could design two at the same time)

14.Princess’ Brother (turn from the fox)

Tall, handsome, red, fox looking clothing and features because

he has been a fox for so long it has effected his human form.

LOCATIONS

15.Kings Garden

Many flowers, bright colours, various shapes and sizes, fountains, ponds,

small water falls, and stone pathways and grassy areas.

16.Kings Palace:

Huge, large arch ways, tall windows, really grand and impressive

17.The woods:

Dark, twisted trees, caves, cliffs, black rivers, weird plants

18.The two Inns( one is good and the other bad)

Just use the images we used earlier this semester.

19.Open country:

Rolling hills, grassing pains,

20.Castle of the Golden Bird:

huge, bamboo structures, tree houses, think of these guys as bird worshipers, Tribal, jungle,

Headhunters. Damp rainforest setting, wooden bridges between towers.

21.Prison:

Dark and damp, skulls in a corner.

22.Courts of Justice:

Damp rainforest setting, witch doctor "judge" and elders, elaborate feather costumes and head dresses. A bon fire in the middle of a large structure.

23.Castle of the Golden Horse:

Think "horse lords", Middle Eastern, Arabian, sand stone structures, domed roof houses

Ancient Persians, gold and lots of towers

24.Prison:

Square sand stone box. Boring

25.Golden Castle:

the most incredible structure you have every seen. Glass structures, pointy towers, hanging gardens, water falls

26.Bathing House:

Still water, reeds, canopy of trees

27.The Hill:

self explanatory

28.The village (with the two Inns)

Use the same designs that was used for the Inns.

29.The Well

old, unused, isolated( in the woods) look at the Woods design also.

PROPS/miscellaneous

30.The tree that bore golden apples:

A really elegant form, flowing branches

31.Eldest sons gun:

...Sweet

32.Wooden cage:

ahhh wooden?

33.The king’s gun (at the end of the story)

any ideas?
